Black Pearl - Live at "The Downs" - circa 1989
Les Sumner is an Adelaide rock legend, and with his band "Black Pearl" he spent most of the 1980s cramming hundreds of devotees shoulder-to-shoulder into the gritty, hard rocking pubs of Adelaide's northern suburbs. The name pre-dates those "pirate" movies, originating from the drummer's black "Pearl" kit. Of their many incarnations, this one is arguably the best, with Les on vocals, Marty Holmes on drums, Ross McLoud on lead guitar, Lance Jones on guitar & blues harp, and Barry Furler on bass. Complimented by tight harmonies from Lance & Marty, they rocked the Adelaide 80s!

"Bittersweet" - Live on Channel 7 - circa 1998
Adelaide band "Bittersweet" performing live on Channel Seven's "Adelaide Today" with Jan Beasley" on 10th March 1998. Bittersweet was renown for their smooth 4-part harmonies and that classic 1990's mature contemporary sound. Marty Holmes and Lance Jones on guitars came from "Black Pearl" to compliment the two headline singers Lind-Lou Holmes and Linda McCarthy (on keyboard). All four members eventually went on to other things, with Linda moving to a successful solo career, and Marty, Lindi-Lou and Lance forming the core of classic Adelaide band "Shakey Ground".

Shakey Ground - Studio Music Video - circa 2009
By the mid 2000's, Lindi-Lou Holmes, Marty Holmes and Lance Jones had developed a classic 3-part harmony that carried it's own unmistakable character. This partnership was the basis of the band "Shakey Ground", performing high-end gigs and classic Adelaide music venues. In this the latest and arguably the best incarnation, Lindi-Lou, Marty and Lance are joined by Keith Forster on lead guitar, Istvan Nemeth on bass and Dave "Mr Fabulous" Hanna on keyboards. Strangely enough, this classic Robben Ford cover was one of the few songs they performed without their well known harmonies.

Shakey Ground - Live at "The Gully" - circa 2012
The soundtrack is from one of Shakey Ground's earliest studio recordings. The vision is taken from a gig at one of Adelaide's best known venues for contemporary music, the "Tea Tree Gully Hotel". Featuring the penultimate lineup of Lindi-Lou Holmes on vocals, Marty Holmes on drums, Lance Jones on guitar and blues harp, Keith Forster on lead guitar, Istvan Nemeth on bass and Dave "Mr Fabulous" Hanna on keyboards, this video attempts to capture the excitement of a "live" Shakey Ground gig. Once again, almost by design, the band seems to avoid their famous harmonies when captured on video.

Shakey Ground - Live at "Finn McCool's"" - circa 2012The classic Shakey Ground line-up, this time with Lance Jones as lead vocalist The timeless classic "Comfortably Numb" by Pink Floyd is devastatingly delivered by the band probably at their height. Note the tear-jerking "strings" of Dave Hannah on Keyboard while Kieth Forster delivers what was widely known as his best lead riff with the band. Lance and Lindy perform some sweet harmonies while Marty Holmes and Istvan Nemeth keep the bottom end throbbing along. Lance took lead vocals only occasionally, but to good effect.
